On this half day workshop you will learn the copper foil or ‘Tiffany technique’, which was developed in the US in the late 1800’s by Louis Comfort Tiffany, one of the pioneers in the Arts and Crafts movement.  This method of wrapping the edges of the glass in a self adhesive copper tape is popular, as you need less specialist equipment than you would for traditional lead work or fused glass. You are also not restricted by lead came, so you can make more intricate patterns, panels, suncatchers or 3D forms. You may be familiar with Tiffany lampshades? - These are constructed using glass, copper foil and solder.

You will be able to select from one of two pre-designed sun catcher templates to create something special to take home and hang in your window.  A variety of beautiful pre-cut glass will be available to form your design.  No experience necessary, as I will take you through each step of the process from learning to select your glass, grind the edges, foil, flux, then solder, clean and finish your work.

Note: you will not be cutting glass on this workshop.

The workshop will be fun and relaxed with a maximum of 6 students.  If you have already tried this technique and want a refresher then this day is also perfect for you.  If the weather is fair we will be outside to enjoy the serene surroundings at Little Forest Land Art surrounded by sculptures during 'Art in the Garden'. If the weather is inclement the workshop will take place inside up stairs (no wheel chair access).

Health & Safety:

You will be working with sharp glass, hot tools and machinery, however, I will teach you how to be safe when working.

You will be provided with all the tools, safety equipment and materials; glass, foil, solder to enable you to complete your project… just bring along your enthusiasm!
